Name: Cobalt

Species: Sableye

Gender: Male

Age: 22

Personality:  Cobalt is quite an intelligent Pokemon, but not quite as intelligent as he thinks he is, or anywhere near as intelligent as he pretends to be. Whilst he likes to give the impression of a master schemer, always calm, confident and three steps ahead, he often has no idea what he's actually doing and makes up his plans on the fly. Success rates vary.
He's not afraid to turn on the charm, and try to flatter his way into someone's favor, or out of a bad situation, although his sweet-talking can be let down by his unsettling appearance. He sees no reason to tell the truth if a lie would be easier, make him sound better, or be more fun.

He's an avid and omnivorous reader, and will happily engross himself in anything from a tacky romance novel to a handbook on shed maintenance. His extensive reading makes him a mine of useless and half-remembered information.

Cobalt is, at core, a pragmatist, and has no qualms about cheating, stealing or fighting dirty: for him, the means very much justify the end, especially if that end is something good for Clanker and himself. He's far from the strongest Pokemon out there, and feels no shame in avoiding a fight, whether through flattery, fake crying and pleas for mercy, actual crying and pleas for mercy, or lying through his teeth. When given no other choice, his favoured battle strategy is to hit the opponent with Confuse Ray, and topple them with Foul Play whilst they're trying to remember how many legs they have.

He's rather protective of Clanker, and has a tendency to shield her as best he can from anything unpleasant, up to and including the truth.

History: Cobalt lived a comfortable, if somewhat solitary life in cave system a little distance from Andalusst, where he occupied his time with collecting an extensive collection of books, through means both honest and otherwise, watching the night sky, digging for interesting (and delicious) rocks, and maintaining the cave chamber he called home.

All this changed when a heavy storm brought a freak flash flood sweeping though the caverns, bringing about a catastrophic cave-in. Whilst he was able to escape, albeit somewhat worse for wear, he lost his home and everything he owned...and gained a friend in the form of Clanker, a young Aron who had also lost her home to the floodwaters. Taking pity on the little lost Aron, he initially planned to stay with her and keep her safe until she could re-unite with her parents. It soon became clear, however, that the rest of her family hadn't survived, and Cobalt found himself thrust completely unprepared into a position somewhere between adoptive father, cool big brother, and best friend to the orphaned Aron. With nowhere else to go, and no better ideas, he decided to make the journey to Andalusst, to find employment and a home for the two of them, spinning Clanker a tale that her parents were alive, just separated from her by the storm, and would be coming back for her any day now.

Misc:

-He's not a fan of heights.
-As a Sableye, he naturally twitches from time to time, although excitement, nerves or irritation have a tendancy to make the twitch worse. His left ear, in particular, twitches badly when he's stressed.
-He's an ameteur stargazer, and loves watching the night sky.

Moveset:

Confuse Ray - Cobalt makes eye-contact with his opponant, and projects an eerie glow from his diamond eyes, clouding over their mind. Used at a lower intensity, it can also be used to make an unsuspecting victim more suggestible. This move requires eye-contact to work properly.

Shadow Claw - Cobalt slashes at his opponant with claws sheathed in shadowy energies. Can also be used to make kick-ass shadow puppets.

Foul Play - Drawing on dark powers, Cobalt temporarily becomes as physically strong as his opponant, and delivers a strategic smack or slash to their weak points.

Power Gem - Cobalt fires a beam of light and crystal fragments from the ruby on his chest.

Name: Clanker

Species: Aron

Gender: Female

Age: 8

Personality: While Cobalt is a liar and a shameless flatterer, Clanker is brutally honest, and as tactful as a steamroller. While rarely actually malicious, she has the tendancy to ask innocent but soul-crushingly hurtful questions, such as "Cobalt, what's wrong with that guy's nose?", "How come you walk so funny?" or "Why are you so fat?".

Clanker isn't exactly stupid, but she's far from the sharpest Pokemon out there, something not helped by her young age and inexperience with life outside the cave she grew up in. If you told her "gullible" was painted on the ceiling, she'd squint at it for half an hour before asking if she was looking in the right place. She has great determination once she sets her mind to a task, but also something of a one-track mind, and can find it hard to concentrate on more than one thing at a time.

Being an Aron, Clanker has considerable strength and toughness, although growing up around her considerable larger and stronger Aggron parents, she still tends to think of herself as small and weak, and has difficulty remembering that other Pokemon and their belongings tend to be more fragile than her. Aside from not knowing her own strength, her dexterity sufferers from having to manipulate objects with her mouth or her stubby forelegs, and she sometimes needs help with more fiddly tasks.

At her core, Clanker is still a young child, albeit one strong enough to smash rocks with her head: she's easily unnerved by unfamiliar situations, and isn't fully confident in herself yet. Whilst she's more than capable of holding her own in a fight, she still needs Cobalt to tell her a bedtime story, and can be quite clingy with the Sableye if she's feeling scared or insecure.

History: Clanker lived a fairly peaceful life with her Aggron parents and her older sister, in the same cave system inhabited by Cobalt, although the closest she ever came to meeting the Sableye was through scary stories her parents told her about soul-eating shadow-goblins that preyed on naughty Arons who wouldn't eat their shale.

Awoken in the night by rising water and ominous creaking from deep within the cave, Clanker was carried out of the collapsing cave by her father, who told her to wait outside whilst he went back to help her mother and sister.

He never came back out.

Alone and frightened, she frantically searched for her parents amongst the rubble of the cave-in...and found Cobalt instead. Initially terrified of the Sableye and convinced he wanted to eat her soul, she quickly latched onto him as the only thing remotely close to a responsible adult left in her life. When he suggested that they make the journey to Andalusst to seek their fortunes as guild members, she was all too happy to follow. She can't wait for her parents to find her again, so she can tell them all about her adventures.

Misc:

-She naturally expresses affection by butting heads with people. She's learned to restain this to a gentle nudge after giving Cobalt a concussion.
-She loves drawing, and colouring-in, although her artwork suffers from the fact she has to hold the pencil in her mouth and can't see what she's drawing.
-She's terrified of water, and convinced that she'll sink even in puddles that only come up to her feet.
-She can perceive magnetic fields, allowing her to sense deposits of iron ore, and always know which way is North.

Moveset:

Roar - Clanker lets out a roar that sounds loud enough to come from a considerably larger Pokemon. It's intimidating to scare off some attackers, but not enough to put off a truly determined opponant.

Take Down - Taking a run-up, Clanker charges into her opponant head-first with enough force to injure herself too.

Iron Head - Clanker smashes her head into her opponant as hard as possible. Her signature move, and solution to most problems.

Protect - Concentrating hard, Clanker puts up a faint yellow barrier capable of blocking most attacks. Using this move takes a lot of effort, leaving her tired and woozy, and using it twice in quick succession is out of the question.

Popcorn belongs to :iconteamninjabug: - I’m just borrowing him.

Name: Popcorn

Species: Joltik

Gender: Male

Age: 8

Personality: The cutest, sweetest little puffball imaginable…for now. Popcorn is, despite the hardships he’s endured, an innocent optimist, always trying to see the best in situations and people alike. He’s practically hard-wired to be generous and selfless, an ingrained communistic, share-and-share-alike philosophy being vital to the survival of his community…although this very same innocent obliviousness to the concept of personal property, and instinct to “share” has led Cobalt to encourage him to “share” things without the original owner necessarily knowing about it first…

Coming from a large, social community, Popcorn is a friendly, affectionate little bug, whose kind demeanour and considerate nature tends to make him friends easily. His outgoing nature and desire to get along with people is only tempered by his self-preservation instincts, and innate fear of predators.

Unfortunately, Popcorn may not stay the only truly virtuous member of the team so sweet forever: for his population of Island-Joltiks, evolution comes with a drastic change in personality, warping a sweet, selfless Joltik into a savage, sociopathic Galvantula. As such, he’s desperate to avoid evolution, even if he’s not quite sure how…or at least try to control himself if he does change.

History: Popcorn hatched into a warm, cozy silk nest, where he and his siblings were fed, groomed, protected and cared for by the island’s Galvantula community…right up until the point where they were weaned and old enough to take care of themselves, whereupon they and the rest of that generation of Joltiks were unceremoniously dumped out into a world where pretty much everything was out to eat them, their parents included. The Joltik community was forced to carve out their own place on the hostile island (with a little help from an unusually docile Shiny Galvantula), something not accomplished without losses.

Attempting to gather enough electricity to feed his community by absorbing a lightning-bolt, Popcorn found himself swept away when the storm proved far more violent than expected. Surviving by constructing a parachute from his Electroweb, and riding the storm for many cold, hungry days, Popcorn eventually touched down in Andaluust. After absorbing a meal from a not entirely willing Pichuand receiving hospitality from some friendly locals, and spending a few nights sleeping out in the open, Popcorn began searching for a new home…a search that lead him to Clanker and Cobalt’s front door. The two gave him a place to stay, and eventually offered him a spot on their team when one opened up…although the still intend to help him get back to his island and community. Hopefully before he evolves and eats them in their sleep.

Moveset:

-Electroweb: Popcorn shoots glowing blue webbing from his mouth or abdomen. Can also be used for purposes other than direct offense, ie, laying traps, building homes, and making safety-lines.

-Thunderbolt: Popcorn shoots a bolt of bright yellow electricity at his opponent...usually at a non-lethal level. Can’t be used if he’s running low on electricity.

-Bug Buzz: Popcorn puffs up his fur and vibrates, sending out a wave of green energy that can bypass Substitutes.

-Energy Ball: Popcorn launches a ball of dark green energy at his opponent. Often used to defend against Ground-types that are immune to his electrical attacks.

Just scouring through references and realised: Wow, the art here came a long way. Haha. Maybe bi-anually app redraws need to be mandatory.
...
But anyway... You... may have listed Popcorn's Electroweb as Electro Ball... And yes... that actually is the reason I'm commenting. Sue me.
